Do you rather fire a crossbow than a “regular” bow? But you do love bow fishing? Well, how about a fishing crossbow? We are pretty much all about bow hunting – but our new team member James loves his crossbows.

Check your local regulations regarding bow fishing or crossbow fishing. Most of the time they are NOT the same as if you would use a rod and reel.

You do own a crossbow? Great, we´ll show you some of the crossbow fishing kits and mounts you could use to transform your crossbow into an awesome fishing crossbow.

AMS Tournament Series

No worry of breaking your line: With the AMS Bowfishing Series and its 350 lbs Dacron Line you´ll get your fish to the boat.

The hardware is made of stainless steel and the gear takes up to 27″ of line with every revolution of the handle.

Features:

  • Gear ratio 4.3:1
  • Weights 3.0 pounds
  • Corrosion-resistant (stainless-steel, brass gears)

This reel could potentially be even more than a casual crossbow-fisherman would need. On the other hand: Think big or go home!

CAJUN Winch Pro Bowfishing Reel

The fighting wheel brake is a nice feature on this CAJUN reel. Perfect to slow a fish´s run and at the same time, you are reeling.

We like the rugged aluminum frame and the adjustable ceramic string guides.

Features:

  • Weight 1.5 pounds
  • Fighting wheel brake
  • Rugged aluminum frame
  • Easily adjustable

To make this work on your crossbow, you need to have a bracket or another way to mount it to the crossbow (see below).

AMS Bowfishing Crossbow Mount

You have a crossbow, reel, arrow, and now all you need is something to put it all together? The guys from AMS offer the perfect solution: The AMS Bowfishing Crossbow Mount.

Here is a useful video that explains pretty much in detail, what you need to do, to attach the Crossbow Mount to your crossbow.

The bolt holes on your crossbow must be 1.3″ apart center to center! If you have a picatinny rail on your crossbow you´ll need a picatinny rail adapter!

This should work for almost 99% of all crossbows out there. If you are not 100% sure, ask your manufacturer! Read more here.

AMS Bowfishing Crossbow Bolt

All that you need now are proper bow fishing crossbow bolts (bowfishing kits). These solid fiberglass bolts were made specifically for bowfishing with a reel.

AMS is a well-known brand when it comes to bow fishing. These bolts have no break-away points. The point is attached and fixed to the bold.

Crossbow Bowfishing: Who Is It For?

If you have a youth or a handicapped shooter who wants to get into some great and addictive bow fishing action, a crossbow might be a good way to do so.

Yes, there are faster ways to get a fish to your boat than with a crossbow!

But if you lack the strength it takes to draw a bow or just don’t have two hands to do so, crossbows are a wonderful alternative.
