First Impression
The Saga weighs in at only 7.5 lbs., which is not a lot compared to other high-performance crossbows. Bear Archery Inc. advertises this crossbow as “Aggressive” and “Lethal.” And yes, it sure looks just like that!

We got a question about how long you can leave the crossbow cocked. Customer Service at Bear Archery said you shouldn’t keep it cocked for more than 5 hours!

Short History of Bear Archery
Bear Archery was founded by Fred Bear and Charles piper in Detroit, Michigan, in 1933 as the Bear Products Company. In 1938 the company expanded to offer hand-made bows.

Got this for Christmas ,Never fired one so once in tree stand ,I will cock my Saga 405 how long can I keep it cocked as hunt has been as long as dust to dark.
Is that to long on the limbs being cocked
Hi Don, we asked Bear Customer Care and they recommend not keeping it cocked for longer than 5 hours. Hope that helps.
I bought a saga 405 at the end of 2020 had it a couple days when the limb broke I returned it to academy sports and after argument with manager they replaced it pulled it out one week ago out of the hard case went to check it out for scope sighting cocked it set it on bench heard a loud pop limb split down the length of it top and bottom on left side. There is definitely a flaw I took it to the bow repair shop where they told me they have had quite a few do the same. Has someone got to be severely hurt before they admit there is a design flaw terry Keaton from Arkansas

I have owned my saga 405 for 2 years and have had the limbs replace 2 times already. I agree something needs to be done about the limbs or someone might get hurt. Maybe bear could send us a more updated limbs to get installed. Both times I have had my limbs replaced I get charged the installation fees.

I’ve had my 405 for three years now, and I’ll be honest, the only problem I’ve had thus far is its too powerful for most standard archery targets. Make sure to read the rating on the target before unleashing this powerhouse on it.

I have a pre-owned Bear X 405 Saga crossbow I purchased in a Texas pawnshop in January 2023. I also purchased a 6 month warranty and will be practicing with it soon. If the limbs do split, do it now as I start practicing with it. Thank you everybody for making this thread great!
