If you are looking for a crossbow with speeds above 400 fps, and an outstanding draw weight of more than 200 lbs, the Bear x Saga 405 is for you – This crossbow offers an excellent value!

First Impression

The Saga weighs in at only 7.5 lbs., which is not a lot compared to other high-performance crossbows. Bear Archery Inc. advertises this crossbow as “Aggressive” and “Lethal.” And yes, it sure looks just like that!

Overall weight of 7.5 lbs and 14″ wide cocked and 18″ wide uncocked

We got a question about how long you can leave the crossbow cocked. Customer Service at Bear Archery said you shouldn’t keep it cocked for more than 5 hours!

Bear X Saga 405 – Draw Weight 210lbs

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Fast
  • Accurate and powerful
  • Well build
  • Up to 405 FPS are possible
  • 210 lbs

Cons:

  • High Draw Weight (you gotta be strong!)
  • No winch option at the moment available

A word of caution: Some buyers reported problems regarding the limbs. We contacted Bear Tech Departement, and they told us that people leave the crossbow cocked too long!

Accessories included

The package includes:

  • 4X32 multi-reticle scope
  • 4-bolt quiver
  • 3 carbon bolts (with field points)
  • sling
  • cocking rope
  • rail lube

As mentioned above. This fast crossbow offers speeds of up to 405 FPS (draw weight 210 lbs), making it one of the more powerful crossbows available. Not THE fastest, but definitely within the upper half.

If you want to customize, the adjustable fore end grip, and rear stock will let you do just that.

Summary

In this Bear Saga 405 Crossbow review, we’ve looked at several features that let this package differentiate itself from the rest (read.. perfect bowfishing kits for crossbows)

For us, it was: The surprisingly low weight, its accuracy, how consistent it shoots, and HOW FAST IT IS!

If you are looking to hunt with a crossbow and want a high-performance bow, then this one is worth checking out.

The Bear Saga 405 Crossbow is an excellent product. But bear in mind that it has a draw weight of 210 lbs. Not for the small build or not as strong

Right now, the manufacturer doesn’t make a crank for it! You’ll have to use the cocking rope (which is included…)

Includes 4×32 multi-reticle scope, 4-bolt quiver, three carbon bolts with field points, sling, cocking rope, and rail lube. The Bear Saga is also very reasonably priced compared to similar crossbow packages from other brands. Plus, the adjustable stock is a nice feature to have too.

  2. I bought a saga 405 at the end of 2020 had it a couple days when the limb broke I returned it to academy sports and after argument with manager they replaced it pulled it out one week ago out of the hard case went to check it out for scope sighting cocked it set it on bench heard a loud pop limb split down the length of it top and bottom on left side. There is definitely a flaw I took it to the bow repair shop where they told me they have had quite a few do the same. Has someone got to be severely hurt before they admit there is a design flaw terry Keaton from Arkansas

  3. I have owned my saga 405 for 2 years and have had the limbs replace 2 times already. I agree something needs to be done about the limbs or someone might get hurt. Maybe bear could send us a more updated limbs to get installed. Both times I have had my limbs replaced I get charged the installation fees.

  4. I’ve had my 405 for three years now, and I’ll be honest, the only problem I’ve had thus far is its too powerful for most standard archery targets. Make sure to read the rating on the target before unleashing this powerhouse on it.

  5. Hello,
I have a pre-owned Bear X 405 Saga crossbow I purchased in a Texas pawnshop in January 2023. I also purchased a 6 month warranty and will be practicing with it soon. If the limbs do split, do it now as I start practicing with it. Thank you everybody for making this thread great!
